Jewellery photography is a specialist area. The lighting skills required to make precious metals and gemstones look their best and the painstaking attention to detail and retouching skills required means that many commercial photographers don't touch it (excuse the pun).

I was asked to write an article on the art of the professional jewellery photographer by leading trade magazine The Jeweller. It's a brief guide for jewellers of all sizes and budgets on how to go about obtaining photography for brochures, advertising and website use.

The article appears in the August 2008 issue of The Jeweller (out August 15th).
