Jewellery photography is a specialist area. The lighting and technical skills required to make precious metals and gemstones look their best and the painstaking attention to detail and retouching skills required mean that many commercial photographers won't touch it (excuse the pun).

I was asked to write an article on the art of the professional jewellery photographer by leading trade magazine The Jeweller. It's a brief guide for jewellers of all sizes and budgets on how to go about procuring photography for brochures, advertising and website use.
