Here are some images from a fun shoot for Leeds-based Exquisite Handmade Cakes, supplier of high quality cakes to the catering and food service industries. They were shot for use on exhibition posters for the Exquisite stand at “lunch!”, Britains leading trade event for the food-to-go-market, which was held last week at the Business Design Centre in London.

The images were set up and shot at the end of a day in the studio producing product images of some of Exquisite’s range of gateaux and tray bakes. It was only a small production but with a theme to show the way that young ladies might appreciate such delicious cakes as they progress from childish enjoyment to adult sophistication, and with a brief for a retro feel.

The amateur models were recruited from Exquisite’s marketing department and extended family and included some of their very best junior cake testers!
The pictures here have been given one of a number of treatments tried out in post-production for a retro feel.

The cake featured in the photographs was the luxuriously rich and dense Bruce Bogtrotters chocolate cake, featured in Roald Dahl’s best-selling novel Matilda. Exquisite produced the cake in conjunction with Waterstones shops, who are selling the original and the latest version of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Recipes book, to demonstrate that the recipes are in fact the exact opposite.
