Leeds based Tony May has scooped top honours at this years annual awards by the Yorkshire Region of the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP), just fifteen months after setting up his commercial photography business.
Advertising Photographer of the Year
The awards, a success for Tony at his first attempt, saw him head the nominations as winner of best Advertising Image and scoop the title of Yorkshire Advertising Photographer of the Year.
His winning image was also judged best of all commercial category winners allowing Tony to walk away with the overall award as BIPP Yorkshire Region Commercial Photographer of the Year.
Tony’s work emerged as winner from entries by commercial studios across the region. According to the judges the winning image was selected for its ‘zen-like’ simplicity, its quality, styling and subtle use of lighting.
It beat winning entries from categories covering architecture, press and public relations, industrial, advertising and fashion.

‘It was the first time in the competition for me’ said Tony ‘I felt I had strong images and was hoping for a Merit award, but to walk away as a winner of the Advertising title and as overall Commercial Photographer of the Year at my first attempt is something I could only have dreamt of.’
He has already built up a client list of businesses across Yorkshire and Teesside and his work is now gaining recognition further a field with contracts in southern England. Creating high quality images of products, food, people, lifestyle, interiors and exteriors for advertising brochures, catalogues, point of sale, editorial and PR has become his hallmark with Tony working with clients direct and through advertising and PR agencies.
